Your Heart’s Treasure Is What ?

“O you who live by many waters and have many riches, your end has come. Your life is being cut off.”                Jeremiah 51:13 (NLV)

The things which we work so hard for and want to posses, are only temporary compared to God’s everlasting treasures. Today, life can be divided into two broad categories: the material and the spiritual.  Jesus taught that our attitude toward the material is a mark of our true spirituality.

Read:  Matthew 6:19-24

Note: there is nothing spiritual about being poor, and there is nothing wrong with “things” in and of themselves  (v.32)

I.   v. 19  Needs or Greeds ?   lay not up-  not stockpiling or/   hoarding

1 Timothy 6:17   He gives us all things for our enjoyment

Luke 12:15   However, they should not be the total of our life

*  Things, can easily have and impact on our heart and affections

*  Things,  don’t satisfy-   how much will it take to satisfy

II.  v. 20  The Desire To Accumulate    Jesus redirects that desire

*  He says: Take it from an earthly realm to a heavenly realm

*  Just switch banks!  Move your accounts to the heavenly bank

*  Not  just money, but our time, energy, service, ambitions, etc.

III.  v. .21-23  Our Treasures Affect Our Heart

Matthew 19:22-22  great possessions affect our true love

*  Things,  take a toll on our real heart’s desire

*  Our eyes are the windows that let the light in:

single = healthy  /  evil = blurred. dark

*  Are you spiritually minded, or materially minded

IV.  v. 24  Our Will Decides Our Purpose

*  “Serve”  means to be a slave to

*  We all serve someone or something-  it’ is a matter of our will

*  Is the Lord first to be left out when we set our goals?

See:  Genesis 13:1-18  Abraham and Lot

Lot moved to Sodom wealthy / a prince.  But he left Sodom with nothing  / a pauper.

Is what you live for and work so hard for,  going to be gone in an instant?
