The Purpose Of The Holy Spirit

“He gave the right and the power to become children of God to those who received Him. He gave this to those who put their trust in His name.”
John 1:12 (NLV)

Sometimes the busyness of everyday life causes us to lose focus and turn our eyes off of the goal.  The Holy Spirit’s purpose is to remind us to get back into fellowship with God.  He helps lead us back to the Father.

Note:   John 16:3,4  the Comforter (helper) is present

Read John 16:5-15

His purpose is to:

  1. bring men and women front and center before Jesus Christ

  2. to bring the lost into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ

  3. and to keep the saved in constant fellowship with Christ

I. v8  The Holy Spirit is the great  convicter

  1. in the area of sin,

  2. in the area of righteousness,

  3. in the area of judgment to come

The Holy Spirit makes absolutely clear the spiritual issues of life and calls us to make a decision.  We are here today because the Holy Spirit convicted us of our sinful past.  Repentance is necessary
2 Corinthians 4:4  Satan only confuses people’s minds

II. v13  The Holy Spirit helps us experience His power

  1. electricity is an invisible power source:
( cools, cooks, freezes, toasts, makes light )

  2. wind is also a power source:
( gentle breeze, sometimes vicious, simple power )

Acts 1:8  God’s power source for us is the Holy Spirit
John 14:16-18  He promises to not leave us powerless

The Holy Spirit can remind us of our inadequacies, make an insecure person secure, a fearful person confident-  change  is His specialty !

Let the Holy Spirit work in you and through you as He did in the disciples.  We need to walk minute by minute in step with the Holy Spirit as He guides us, teaches us and encourages us.

He must have more of you. You don't need more of Him-
He’s already enough !
