Turning Control Of Your Life Over To The Holy Spirit

Read Galatians 5:13-26

“You were getting along so well. Who has interfered with you to hold you back from following the truth? 8 It certainly isn't God, for he is the one who called you to freedom.” Galatians 5:7,8 (NLT)

The outward requirements by some, were not required by God !

v13-18  Paul says there are two ways to live your life:

            1)  guided by the flesh: doing what others  want me to do
            2)  guided by the Holy Spirit:  doing what He  wants me to do

Note -  Flesh  is self centered;    Spirit  is help centered

v16   “So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.” (NLT)

v19-26  He will never let us affect in the lives of others what we have refused to let Him do first in our own lives !  Only when we bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit, will we see the gifts of the Holy Spirit manifested to help others.

Gifts: 1 Corinthians 12:8-11    Fruit:  v22,23

1)  The fruit of the Spirit is the result of God working in you
2)  The gifts of the spirit are the results of God working through you

Fruit:  given by God to help you grow   (3rd purpose for which you were created is to become more Christ like in nature; worship)

Gifts:  given by God so you can help others grow  (4th purpose for which you were created is to minister to others; ministry)

“No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.” Ephesians 2:10 (Msg)

* by maintaining control of your life, you will never effect change (growth) in the lives of people around you

 * if you bear the fruit of the Spirit, you will develop your spiritual gifts - not for self improvement- but you will develop your gifts as a means of helping others and thereby glorifying God

* salvation and service are the expression of inward change-  not outward as some were falsely teaching
