The Significance OF Baptism

   “He who puts his trust in Me and is baptized will be saved from the punishment of sin. But he who does not put his trust in Me is guilty and will be punished forever.”       Mark 16:16 (NLV)

Hearing the good news of Jesus demands a response.  Believing on Him brings us salvation.  Baptism causes us to commit our lives to Christ and to live a new life in Christ by His power!

“But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”      Acts 2:21 (NLT)

I.  Jesus Died For You 

            Romans 5:7,8  God’s love for us is demonstrated

*  When we didn't deserve it, Christ died for us; so that we could live

            Romans 3:23-25  Jesus is the appeasement of God’s wrath

II.  v. 3,4   Remember Your Baptism  

* Baptism becomes to us a marking point of reference

*  Paul says, “ remember your baptism”  Not just the event of your baptism, rather the meaning  of your baptism and it’s significance.

            Matthew 28:19,20  commanded by God

            Matthew 3:13-17  demonstrated by Jesus for us to do

            1 Peter 3:21   it is the outward sign of God’s inner Grace

*  Baptism in Greek- ‘baptizo’ simply means ‘immersion’ 

            Mark 1:10   &  Acts 8:38 ,39  demonstrates the method

*  We practice immersion baptism because of the symbolism of a death, a burial, and a resurrection  (v.3)   It’s about putting away the old sinful nature, putting it to death, never to return to it.

            Galatians 2:20   by His power in us, we now live

III.  v. 5,6  Baptism Becomes Our Identification

*  recognizing that it’s thru Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection that our sins are forgiven and we are saved thru Him.  Baptism is about living a new transformed life.  Through baptism, we are identifying ourselves with the Victory that Jesus won over the power of darkness, Satan.  He lives evermore at the right hand of God!

Baptism is about living a resurrection life- a NEW Life In Christ !

 “Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do? ”Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”    Acts: 37,38 (NLT)
