The Devil’s Lentil Soup

Sometimes we can get so caught up in the very present, that we tend to forget about the future.  Do you treasure your relationship with Jesus more than any other relationship?  Don’t put Jesus in the back seat as you drive your life off a cliff.  Crowding Jesus out of your daily life will result in spiritual disaster !

Read:  Genesis 25: 19-34

I.  Distractions

*  Esau traded his birthright riches because he was distracted

*  are we so hungry for what the world offers that we too trade what is precious for a        bowl of momentary happiness?

*  have you ever wanted something so badly that you thought you would just die with out it?  That could just happen.

*  Esau was so hungry and tired that the meal Jacob  was cooking enticed him to give up what was his very most precious possession

II.  Birthright

*  a birthright was the exclusive privilege given to the first-born son of the family.

*  All that the father had- position, respect, and a double portion of his wealth, and goods  would become the right of the first son

*  what did Esau trade?-  now with his belly full, he had traded what was one day to become his double portion of inheritance.

III.  Caution

*  while filling his body with the present day satisfaction, Esau gave up what was to be more precious

*  it was a decision which would affect the rest of his life

*  don’t be tempted to cash in the riches in Jesus Christ for the immediate momentary pleasures of life-  think of the value of what you have to lose

*  don’t trade your faith, your inheritance, for a moment of the devil’s or the world’s fleeting pleasure-  IT'S NOT WORTH IT

2 Timothy 4:6-8  Paul said, “I have kept the faith” ...

* even at his lowest moments, Paul would not compromise

Daniel 1: 5,8    Daniel “purposed in his heart” ...

*  make up your mind ahead of time not to give up your birthright
