Smarts vs. Wisdom

   “Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.

     17.  But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.”      James 3:13,17  Amp

    Are you smarter than a 5th grader is a popular game show  of knowledge.  Knowing and doing are two different things. God blessed Solomon with a great reward for using his wisdom. Solomon didn’t ask selfishly-  but rather with spiritual judgment.

“Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!  And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.”     Proverbs 4:7  NLT

I.   What Wisdom is  

            Proverbs 9:10  first knowing the Lord

            Proverbs 3:13-16  greater than monetary power

*  we should want wisdom more than anything else

            Ecclesiastes 9:14-18  greater than military power

            Proverbs 4:4-9  greater than knowledge

II.  The Difference Between Being Smart and Being Wise

            2 Timothy 2:15  the ability to apply Bible truths in life

            James 1:5  we need to fill our minds with spiritual knowledge- then ask God for wisdom to apply it properly

III.  The Result Of Wisdom

            James 3:13  produces goodness toward others

*  a wise person listens more than they speak

*  wisdom produces gentleness (meekness) when speaking

            1 Corinthians 2:14; 3:18  you have to want to listen

*  wisdom overcomes strife, stubbornness, and selfishness

*  wisdom will help you overcome hypocrisy and be real
