Service Illustrated

   “So let us then definitely aim for and eagerly pursue what makes for harmony and for mutual upbuilding (edification and development) of one another.”      Romans 14:19  Amp

        How often are our priorities backward?  Too often we focus first on the payment, and not the work required to receive the payment. Jesus is talking about the cross and service;  James and John are talking about the crown and heavenly seating arrangements !

I.  v20-28  What It’s Not

*  selfish ambition and self promotion  at the expense of others

            Romans 15:1-3  the strong must help those in need

            Philippians 2:3-8 service is not to be  done for our own glory

            2 Corinthians 5:14,15  because of His love to us, we serve

*  the World climbs the ladder of success by stepping on others

*   Jesus says the way up is down !

*  it’s about serving, not being served

*  remember- the devil also sought a throne

II. v30-34;  17-19  What It Is

* Jesus now demonstrates what He is talking about- doing for others

*  Jesus knows we are sinners in need-  He just wants us to admit it

*  it’s about serving God by serving others

            1 Peter 2:21  Christ left for us an example

            Luke 22:26,27  the World (authority) sits at the table of honor however, in God’s world, the servant is honored more

            Ephesians 6:7,8  the service reward will come from God

We’re here for a purpose given to us by God
