Rely on God : David’s example

Feeling betrayed, persecuted, (opposition) & fearful are natural human experiences from which we as Christians are not immune !
            Do these feelings ever shape your prayers?
            Do you become easily discouraged when faced with opposition?
            Do you find yourself praying for God’s retribution on others?  

Read :  Psalms 5:1-12  David was a warrior- as a youth, he fought bears  and lions; as a man- he fought against the enemies of God.
  vs. 6,9  indicate that malicious lies were being said about David

I.   vs.1-3  David turned to God when these false attacks came
            1)  in the morning
            2)  with expectation     Psalms 130:5     1John5:14,15

 II.  vs.4-6; 9,10  David identifies those who are plotting against him
            1)  God doesn’t take pleasure in evil speaking
            2)  they can’t “stand” before a righteous God
            3)  God hates those who do wrong
            4)  God will exact just payment for their evil ways

 III.  vs.7,8  How then should we conduct ourselves in persecution
            1)  bow before the Lord in prayer
            2)  worship the Lord    Hebrews 4:16
            3)  don’t become like your accusers-  seeking revenge

 IV.  vs.11,12  God will reward those who trust Him
“Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He's the one who will keep you on track.  Don't assume that you know it all. Run to GOD! Run from evil!” Prov.3:5-7 (Msg)

             1)  with rejoicing
            2)  with singing
            3)  with protection
            4)  with blessing
            5)  with favor

 We must thank God that He is our refuge in times of trouble.  These are the times when we can experience His love and continued faithfulness!
