It’s Good To Be Like A Donkey

“Rejoice, O people of Zion ! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem ! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.”      Zechariah 9:9  (NLT)

It’s interesting, according to Luke’s account, the Pharisees were embarrassed by Jesus’ disciples.  Afraid of upsetting the Romans by their announcing, “ blessed be the King who comes in the Name of the Lord”. They didn’t understand the message He was bringing.

Read:  Matthew 21:1-11      ( Mark 11:1-10;   Luke 19:29-38;   John 12:12-16 )

Lessons From The Donkey:

*  Jesus had a plan for the donkey; He has a plan for each one of us

Jeremiah 29:11  we are in his thoughts continually

*  The donkey was chosen to fulfill His plan that day

John 15:16;  Ephesians 2:10  He has ordained us to do His work

*  They placed new garments upon the donkey

Isaiah 61:3;  Galatians 3:27  We also receive new garments

*  Because of the donkey’s service Jesus was more visible to the crowd.  When we humble ourselves, others will see more of Jesus.

Philippians 3:9,10   it’s not me who should be exalted, but Christ !

*  We must allow Jesus to be more visible in our lives

*  When we humble ourselves and live our lives in service to the Lord, He will be glorified.  Others will want to know more about Him.

*  The people didn’t applaud the donkey-  they were cheering Jesus because the donkey, was bringing their Salvation.

b)  he was untamed-  stubborn, rebellious in nature, not easily lead
c)   he was outside the barn-  we are outside Christ, without hope
d)  he was untied-  we also are “set free” by Jesus
e)  he was brought to Jesus-  we also are brought to Him
f)   he submitted to the will of the Savior-  we are lead in service
g)  he was used for God’s glory-  we also want be used by Him
