In Light Of Eternity

“Now all of us can go to the Father through Christ by way of the one Holy Spirit. From now on you are not strangers and people who are not citizens. You are citizens together with those who belong to God. You belong in God's family.”                  Ephesians 2:18,19 NLV

When we get swamped with care and the things here on earth, how should we live in light of eternity.  We know about the future, and with that knowledge  comes responsibility on our eternal focus.

Read:  2 Peter 3:9-14

I. v11  Live With Holy Conduct and Godliness

*  “manner” means what sort of person am I supposed to be

*  “ought” carries with it the idea of necessity

*  often there can be a vast difference between what and should

*  do you sense the obligation to live with an eternal perspective?

1 John 2:15-17  don’t get  attached to this world’s trappings

*  we’re not living for this world- just strangers passing through

1 Peter 2:9-11  foreigners- not citizens

*  Holy conduct refers to actions;  godliness refers to my attitude

1 John 3:2,3  filter (monitor) your actions and behavior

II. v.12-14  Live With Devotion and Expectancy

Matthew 6:19-21  you alone have a choice by your living

*  notice: Peter uses the phrase “looking for” three times here

*  that carries the idea of expectancy- waiting with alertness;  ready

*  not just looking for, but also living for His call home to eternity

III.  v.14b  Live With Diligence

Hebrews 6:11,12  urges us onward in our Christian walk

*  Notice two things here:

            1)  first, we are to be “without spot” referring to our character

*  what we are really like on the inside- no hidden blotches /  fault

            2)  secondly, we are to “be blameless” referring to our reputation

*  how we relate to other people by what we claim to be

Philippians 4:8  by turning our focus upon Godly things-

we will have the peace he talks about in v.7- because in a moment::

“...  to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
