His Way or Our Way

   “Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught.” Colossians 2:7  CEV

      We are often faced with tests in life.  Mighty storms come our way. The two men in Matthew heard Jesus teach the guidelines of building upon a sure foundation.  They both had a desire to build a house. Both houses looked strong and sturdy. However, the difference was in the attention to foundation details and obedience.

I.  Wise Builders 

*  building codes are written and instituted for a reason

*  as believers, we also must obey the building code of our faith

            Romans 8:13,14; 24,25  both hope and faith

*  our steady foundation “witness” will point to Christ   (Luke 6:48)

            James 2:14-16  others will see our “faith” foundation

*   when difficult tests and storms of life come, lean on Jesus

II.  Unwise Builders   

            James 1:22-25 follow the instructions- not your intentions

*  do not give only lip service as some in a hurry do

*  they only pay minimal or/ no attention to detail of the guidelines

*  their building looks strong and nice- but it isn’t stable   (Luke 6:49)

*  with no foundation it can not endure the test and will not last

*  when the house does collapse, it is usually abandoned and left

            1 Corinthians 3:11-15  our spiritual mettle will be revealed
