The Priceless Gift Of Freedom In Christ

Read: Galatians 5:1-6

“Christ's life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not "mine," but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me”  Galatians 2:20 (Msg)

Through Christ - and only  through Christ can you be free and live free

Free from: sin’s penalty, God’s wrath, Satan’s continual domination, and the Old Testament law’s curse.

I.   v5a  It is for freedom that Christ has set us free

II. v5b  Stand firm then - enjoy this freedom that Christ has given you by His sacrifice.  The yoke has been lifted  (oxen unyoked)

III. v2-6  Consequences of embracing works -Christ then has no value
* we can not seek God’s favor based on our own performance
* Christ does not need our assistance to save us !

IIII. v4  sanctifying grace would then be rendered meaningless
Isaiah 64:6  filthy rags;     Phillipians 3:9,10  In Him
* God can not accept us based upon our own righteousness

V. v5,6  Faith is replaced by works
* our own righteousness has NO value

John 6:28,29 example of Christ’s teaching  However, we would list:
go to church, read the bible, pray, study, obey, live sin free, etc.

NO- faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ upon the cross is the only ONE  thing that counts, expressing itself through love.

Galatians 3:1 ; 4:9  be careful, don’t lose your way !

Stand Fast !   So Christ has really set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don't get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Gal. 5:1 (NLT)
