Commune With God

“Pray continually, and give thanks whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.”     1 Thessalonians 5:17,18  NCV

Prayer is something that pretty much everyone understands, everyone does at some point in their lives.  We often feel the need to pray and often sense that we need to seek the Lord earnestly.  However, prayer is not just a tool to get us what we want.  Prayer is more than just words, it’s an attitude and expression of our heart.

I.  Call Upon God

always between you and God-  no one on earth can do it for you

Matthew 26:37-39 Jesus pours out His heart to the Father

*  only you can make that decision to have a personal relationship

Matthew 6:5-8  God knows our heart’s needs

*  God doesn’t want impersonal prayer- He wants your hearts love

*  He wants your personal adoration and praise of thanksgiving

Luke 18:9-14  our heart’s attitude is important

II.  God’s Assurance

Psalms 145:14-19  the Lord is near to those who call upon Him

Hebrews 4:14-16  Jesus has become our eternal intercessor

*  when we pray, we should say, ”God, it’s all yours”

*  our dependence must be upon God- He knows our needs

2 Peter 1:3,4  His promises are sure

*  we must yield to Him and His assurance

*  He has everything under control-  He just wants to hear from you
